“I think that when you’re outside, no matter what you do, you’re part of nature”, says Bea Pila, an interior designer in Miami Florida who recently completed her dream home in Coconut Grove, Florida, with her husband, architect/builder Carlos Gonzalez-Ochoa. “We live in such climate-controlled interior design spaces. We forget about nature”.

The area under Pila’s roof is relatively small at 1,00 square feet. But there’s almost as much decorated space outside, with arched, covered terraces surrounding the home on the ground and balconies on the second floor.

When she’s on ther balcony, Pila says, “sitting up there, I feel like I’m in a tree house”. And when she’s on a ground floor terrace, she curls up into her self-made *Moroccan tent”.
