When Beatrice Pila-Gonzalez was contacted by a Miami couple to design their Key Biscayne home, the request was somewhat surprising. In these times of modern interior design, they opted for traditional. The couple had grown up on the island, and their home together was very contemporary. The wife is the daughter of a contemporary architect, and is decidedly pro-modern, but her husband wanted something warmer. So when they acquired the oceanfront property they had dreamed of, more traditional they went – by way of Casablanca, that is.
The couple chose Luis Jauregi of East Coast Architects for the structural design. “They insisted on an architect that would still give it a clean, contemporary edge”, says Pila-Gonzalez. Of course, playing off the waterfront location was a main factor as well. “They were very conscious of capturing the views as much as possible”, the interior designer adds.
