Su filosofía se basa en que diseñar no es un lujo sino una necesidad, y en que los espacios se utilizan para inspirar y elevar el espíritu transportándonos fuera de lo mundano.

Beatrice Pila-González es una exitosa diseñadora de interiores en Miami, que a través de los años ha recibido innumerables reconocimientos, y es que desde el comienzo sus trabajos se hicieron notar por lo que fue nombrada como una de los 10 diseñadores más destacados y a quienes seguir su trayectoria por “Contract Design Magazine’s”.

Dos importantes figuras, ella, diseñadora de interiores, y él, arquitecto, unidos por el amor en la vida real, combinan sus gustos y necesidades para crear la casa de sus sueños, poniendo cada una de sus experiencias en función de lograr un hogar elegante y súper acogedor.

Beatrice Pila-González, diseñadora de interiores que ha obtenido numerosos premios, y su esposo, Carlos González-Ochoa, un exitoso arquitecto y contratista, han participado juntos en muchos proyectos. Todos los anteriores –con excepción de dos propiedades residenciales que ambos remodelaron para habitarlas con su propia familia compuesta por cuatro personas pertenecían a sus clientes.

Pero ahora, la creativa pareja estaba lista para diseñar y construir su propio hogar. Comenzaron por combinar sus preferencias personales y su “lista de deseos”, con un adecuado lote de terreno en Coconut Grove, exuberante y tranquilo suburbio en el límite Suroeste de Miami. A pesar de su estrechez, este terreno de 55 por 125 pies era suficiente para lo que ellos habían soñado: una estructura obviamente nueva, con una apariencia externa de haber sido vivida por varias décadas, incluyendo unos 4,000 pies cuadrados de espacio interior con aire acondicionado, repleto de comodidades.

Para estos clientes tan especiales de Martha Puente y Beatrice Pila González, la idea de vivir en una residencia cuyos espacios interiores estuvieran marcados por una sucesión de habitaciones cerradas, no les hacía mucha gracia. Los dueños -un matrimonio formado por un ingeniero civil y una radióloga, ambos nacidos en Cuba- rechazaban la idea de convertir su casa en algo así como una colección de "pequeñas cajas". Siempre insistieron en que su nueva residencia debía tener muy pocas divisiones. Por el contrario, para sacar el máximo provecho al espléndido terreno que disponían en Key Biscayne, una de las zonas residenciales más prestigiosas del sur de la Florida, la pareja hizo énfasis, desde el principio del proyecto, en que su casa debía estar diseñada de modo que permitiera disfrutar de amplias vistas panorámicas. Hasta el extremo de que, en lugar de disminuir de alguna manera esas vistas, la decoración de las ventanas debía ser mínima, a pesar de los proyectados motivos neoclásicos de la villa italiana que deseaban construir.

El equipo de diseño de interior, Puente and Pila Associates, fue el responsable de colaborar con el arquitecto Giorgio Belli en este ambicioso proyecto.

Cuando diseño una sala, siempre comienzo por lo básico, que es crear un boceto con los elementos dentro del espacio para establecer el flujo del tráfico, etc. Esto es tan importante como saber qué piezas fundamentales necesitan ser incorporadas a la habitación, como puede ser un piano o la chimenea, que exigen una distribución específica. Después que se ha determinado el plano, siempre me gusta revisar la escala de la habitación. Muchas de las salas actuales tienen techos altos, lo que determina el tamaño y la escala de los muebles a usar en el área. Un error que se comete a menudo es seleccionar piezas que resultan muy pequeñas o muy grandes con relación a las demás. A veces yo creo una línea horizontal a escala humana en espacios que resultan muy altos e incómodos y les añado molduras o drapeados a determinado nivel, que cortan la altura.

Otro elemento de diseño de interior al que a menudo no se le presta atención en el ambiente de las salas actuales, es la acústica, por eso, algunas veces no resultan muy atractivas para sentarse. Eso me obliga a introducir elementos que suavicen el sonido, como alfombras, cortinas y tapices.

Fue una gran noche. No sólo por los más de 400 asistentes, entre empresarios, políticos, personalidades del diseño interior y periodistas locales que llenaron los salones del Seacoast Resort, sino por el significado. Y es que la primera entrega de los premios Absolut Expression a los diseñadores hispanos marcó un punto de partida que, sin duda, tendrá repercusiones muy importantes. Al fin, estos verdaderos artistas que tanto hacen para que nuestros hogares sean más bellos recibieron el merecido reconocimiento, como bien dijo Wayne Feldman, gerente de mercadeo de Absolut Vodka “El sur de la Florida se reconoce mundialmente por su innovadora arquitectura y su singular estilo de diseño interior. Los diseñadores hispanos de interiores contribuyeron grandemente al fascinante estilo de Miami”.

Nothing is scared anymore-at least not at 910 Lincoln Road in the heart of Miami Beach’s Art Deco district, where a former Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall has been transformed into one of the area’s hottest new eating places, South Beach Brasserie. Thought the restaurant hardly owes its success to divine intervention, it’s cool reputation in this colorful, culturally diverse and decidedly trendy pocket of Southeast Florida has been bolstered by a Puente _ Pila Associates interior design that is nothing short of miraculous. Not to mention the fact that it’s co-owner is a famous movie star.

To make it in South Beach, where haute décor and cuisine meet on practically every corner, a restaurant must present just the right combination of interior design style, ambiance and fare. South Beach Brasserie had two compelling assets from the start in owners Michael Caine, the well-Known British actor and part-time South Beach resident and local businessman Ray Schnitzer. Both men have considerable experience with successful restaurant ideas.

Bea Pila-Gonzalez (Interior Designer Miami)

After school, Bea Pila-Gonzalez would go to her parents framing shop. One day, her father dragged her to a job at an interior designer’s home. “I saw that things were harmonized and put together, and I felt what the beauty of interior design does to a space”, says Pila-Gonzalez. The little girl grew up to combine this wonderment with her parent’s entrepreneurial success and develop her own interior design business.

“I truly feel that I was given my talents and aptitude by divinity. Being a interior designer allows me to express the wealth of these abilities to their greatest potential”, says Pila-Gonzalez, who uses this to create “timeless yet current” interior designs. “I rarely, rarely decorate”. I feel my forte is to manipulate the architectural design of a space, not adding a lot of frou-frou”, she says.

Pila-Gonzalez hones her talents by measuring herself against her sources of wisdom and inspiration: Andrée Putman, Michael Graves, and Robert Stern, who she immortalizes alongside other talents in a scrapbook titled, Silent Mentors.

Crisp Minimalism Defines A Cocoplum Home

Marrying the minimalism of a Zen temple with the artistic energy of an entertainment complex may seem like an exercise in futility, but it is exactly what Martha Puente and Beatrice Pila had to do when designing the interior of an 8,000-square-foot home in Cocoplum, Coral Gables exclusive coastal community.

Their client, a prominent young executive, primarily wanted a space that was uncluttered and soothing to the senses, where he could unwind after a day of ringing phones and fast-paced business deals. But because he frequently entertains client and business associates, he also wanted a “wow” effect.

Luckily, Pila says, the home’s tri-level layout and architectural elements made the task less formidable. “The strength of the architecture pretty much dictated the interior design scheme”, she explains. “The free –flowing openness and bold geometric lines really influenced us, as did it’s strong elements –heavy teak doors with metal casings, marble baseboards and a right, exposed truss ceiling. We immediately envisioned a simple, contemporary interior décor with Oriental undercurrents. The client loved it – he had just returned from the Orient and it was still in his consciousness”.

A Coral Gables Condominium Showcases Prized Collectibles in the Best Light.

Ethel Goldberg’s most important consideration when moving into her new Coral Gables condominium was how to best showcase her collection of fine furnishings and artwork for maximum viewing enjoyment. Goldberg, mother of “Goldberg”, a well-known personality in the professional wrestling world, also wanted to ensure the allocation of ample space to display personal memorabilia.

A friend recommended the interior designer Beatrice Pila-Gonzalez to assist her with the apartment’s interior design. Upon meeting Goldberg, Pila-Gonzalez was delighted to discover that she and her client’s tastes and temperament were “surprisingly similar”, the interior designer says “I pride myself on getting to know my clients, and I insist that my role is to interpret their individual style. Mrs. Goldberg and I were completely attuned as to the direction of her new residence”.

Among their concerted interior design objectives: select classic furnishings with a contemporary edge, accent with architectural details, and provide space to exhibit Goldberg’s porcelain figurines and art glass, platters and vases, and keepsakes.
